Yayasan LaSallian Kuching (YLK) is a charitable organisation established by some former students of St. Joseph’s Secondary School, Kuching and Sacred Heart Secondary School, Sibu in 2002.
Founded at the initiative of Bro. Albinus, a former principal of St. Joseph’s School and Sacred Heart School, YLK was approved by the Registrar of Societies, Malaysia as a non-profit organisation on 10 January 2004 with the registration number 49-03-15.
Its vision is to empower the poor and disadvantaged children through a holistic and meaningful education. To achieve this, YLK set up tuition and special learning centres for all who need them; irrespective of race and religion.
YLK hopes to play a part in achieving the nation’s agenda of bridging the rural-urban divide in education.
Its programmes, known as the LaSallian Rural Education Service (LRES), are funded entirely on individual and corporate generosity. In addition to monetary donation and sponsorship from the public, volunteers in various fields of expertise contribute their time and knowledge to YLK and its programmes.
The LRES was approved by the Brother Visitor in Council of the De La Salle Brothers of Malaysia, Singapore and Hong Kong.
YLK is part of the Signum Fidei fraternity, a lay movement that is committed to educational work and spiritual enrichment according to the La Sallian spirit. YLK strives to continue the work of St John Baptist De La Salle, the patron saint of teachers.to provide education to the poor and disadvantaged.
